Tuesday, August 14: Betty and I putzed around (Pat's phrase) with this and that in the morning, including a walk. (Susan couldn't go because Matt, the painter, was coming early.) I left lunch for Pat, then we drove to her friend Betty M.'s house in Egg Harbor. She lives pretty far out in the woods and her husband has made their property just beautiful. He has whole groves of day lilies, rose-of-Sharons, and other flowers; a greenhouse; a large redwood deck with gazebo separate from the house; a pond with waterfall surrounded by flagstone; and all kinds of large, beautifully healthy trees--what a lovely place. The house itself is a pleasant, but nondescript, ranch--but the grounds--which also feature a U-shaped driveway that goes all the way around the house--are spectacular.
We ate at the Sweetwater Casino (not a casino, of course), which is situated on the river (the Raritan?), where I've been several times before. The Caesar salad was okay and the river views are nice, but the place itself is dark, unkempt, and has a bad smell. I'm adaptable, though, and it was an enjoyable lunch.
After, we drove down to see Pat at the bay, then went home. I served drumsticks, salad, veggies, banana bread, and a few other odds and ends for dinner.
Today, I take Betty to Muckie's, where she'll stay for a time. We'll head over to Atlantic County and will first visit the cemetery, then go to her house, and to Boscov's, before Muckie's.
Weight Watchers tomorrow and I don't think I've lost--may have gained. That's okay, though--I'll just continue what's been working overall.

Hi Rosemary,
Finally, I'm caught up with your blog entries. As usual I fully enjoy each one.
Now I see why you were Editorial Page Editor of the HSHS Spotlight. However you could have just as well been the Editor of the Features page....your descriptions are so vivid.
Thank you for the compliments you've paid me. The visit to your house was a highlight...maybe the highlight of my trip to NJ.
You described lunch as a simple summer luncheon....folks don't let her fool you. Her food choices were delicious and colorful. The dark banana bread....I can still taste.... fruit salad with berries calling out to notice them.... devil eggs to die for...lemon bars melting in your mouth....I am not kidding....Rosemary makes 'simple' transform into wonderful as if it were no effort. For me, it would have been a major production.
We had such fun recalling an earlier time, and bringing one another up to date with our lives.
You must come to VB.....I want you to help me re decorate ....you have a flair for casual elegance. The study/office (previously mentioned on this blog) is beautifully done in white. I love it. And those drapes designed and MADE by Pat are gorgeous.
I'm so glad I've finally met you....although I did sign your yearbook 53 yrs ago. I feel like we are long time friends...notice I didn't say 'old' friends. You are so easy to relate to and I am glad we've reconnected from the day I signed that yearbook.

Rosemary, Betty M's house sound like something out of Good Housekeeping. I would die to have a garden like that, unfortunately we have a very small lawn with a few flowers but nothing like that. I have never seen a wrap around driveway, this is what I need for the way I drive.
Sounds like you are enjoying your time with your twin

SUNDAY

Had a good sleep at Ellen's and once we both got up, she made scrambled eggs for breakfast. We then fussed around with my laptop and did...
