Gorgeous day yesterday. There was just the slightest nip in the air during our walk, but as soon as the sun seriously shone, it was very warm. As always, Pat went back to bed after breakfast, and I high-tailed it to Hand's (local nursery) and got myself three big, beautiful, golden mums and two pots of Montauk daisies. I'm going to ask Alison and Mike to plant them when they come for gardening help next Sunday. LOVE Montauk daisies, which flower in the fall, and have the great characteristic of being perennials.
Served Pat lunch in the living room, as his beloved Eagles were playing. Saw some of the game (Philly stomped Detroit and good), but was interrupted by the doorbell. Sunrise Bay neighbors Cookie O. and Rae, soon joined by Irene M., had brought over their contributions for the Women's Club Tricky Tray, of which I'm chair. I invited them in and the four of us chatted in the study for an hour or so.
When the ladies left, I was galvanized and spent most of the rest of the afternoon digging out and pulling weeds that had started to take over the garden in the front. I'm thinking about going to Manahawkin to buy a crepe myrtle--they're incredibly beautiful, with raspberry flowers--and may ask A. and M. to plant it under the windows in the front bed.
I went in to check the Eagles' progress now and then, and every time I went out again, they scored! Yay!
Just had FF hot dogs (40 cal.) and vegetarian baked beans in the crock pot for dinner. I had one dog, plus a huge salad--was so good. Ellen called and we had a long, absorbing talk, some of which was centered on one of her students. He's been diagnosed with autism, but the mother insists it's simply ADD. Well, he has a great teacher--my darling daughter.
Pat and I watched "The War" by Ken Burns last night; this episode was called "A Necessary War." Well, was it? I'm going to delve again into the causes of WW II--they may well not be what this program suggests. Being a pacifist, I don't think any war is "necessary." Certainly, though, this one seems to have been--at least on the surface--caused by aggression toward us, unlike the current quagmire.
I'm going down to Betty's and we'll hang out. She's still not sure when she'll return to the west coast. I'll bring her down some bathroom rugs I don't need anymore and that should fit well in her baths. Tomorrow, I meet Wellspouse friend, Vivian, for dinner--looking forward to that, too, of course.

Hey girlfriend,
I don't understand....really understand what you have been able to do to say things like a FF hotdog or low cal BB actually taste good. I would have to force myself to eat that stuff on a regular basis. I think FF,lo cal food for the most part has no taste. Did you just get used to it? You are so fortunate to have taste buds that let you enjoy all those veggies...too. What would you recommmend to someone who wants to lose wgt, but doesn't like the aforementioned foods?
I'd rather not have ice cream than the sugar free kind. What did you used to do that you have now avoided?

Crape Myrtles....each house in our circle has one and they are so pretty when in bloom...white, pink, deep pink. I didn't think they grew up North. I don't remember seeing them until we moved to FL.
I don't remember many trees in AC tho.'
War: I too am a pacifist. I do support self-defense, but most wars are imperialistic. We are sooo wrong in this one.

Pat, I swear I eat very few FF foods. I react to them exactly the way you do--would rather not have any than most of them. For some reason, though, the hot dogs taste okay to me, especially in the crock pot cooked in baked beans.
Hmm, maybe the whole idea I'm trying to foster for myself is not to get so much pleasure out of food. Moderate enjoyment is better for me than avidity.
Incidentally, I don't eat ice cream at all EXCEPT the FF Creamsicles I mentioned. Certainly regular hot dogs and Creamsicles tsste better, but these are fairly good. As with FF mayo, which I ate when I used to have sandwiches, I just regard them as an entirely different food, so I'm okay with them.
Yes, I do like veggies. But I sure as hell don't like them as much as, say, a greasy hamburger or a hot fudge sundae. However, because I no longer overeat, when I have a meal, I'm hungry and whatever I eat tastes good.
Here's a recommendation, since you asked for one: Fast for a day, drinking only water or, at the most, a cup or two of buillon. The next day, have fresh veggies ready for lunch--maybe with a half pat of butter and a little lemon juice and salt and pepper. Remember, you have to be REALLY hungry--you might then develop a taste for them.
What do you think? Would you try that?

Yes, I would and I will. Veggies with a pat of butter would be fine. I thought you ate them naked.

Rich has been buying Hebrew National Hot dogs which are reduced fat and I think they are good. Hated 'Healthy Choice' dogs.

The idea of fasting a day to start a calorie reduction program sounds reasonable. I know when I had to do it for the colon prep....I thought a cup of bouillion was delicious. So, I may give serious consideration to doing just that. Soon. I know that sounds like I'm only fooling myself saying 'soon'. I hope not. I've done well at WW in the past....just have to get started. The rest is easy. Just have to get started. Just have to get started...just have to get started....geez I'm stuck on start.

I laughed out loud at your last lines, Pat! How true, how true...
As for eating veggies "naked," I don't, but I don't use butter, either. I just added that because I thought it might make them more palatable to you and, later, you can probably wean yourself away from it. I use the no-cal (or very little cal) buttery spray. It's certainly not as good as butter, but I've been using it so long, I'm okay with. (And butter is one of the things that put me at 199.6 pounds.)

Thursday

Well, it started off nicely, but things got murky later. R.E. agent Kim emailed me the Certificate of  Occupancy, which means the house pass...
