The day started out poorly, but turned out not bad. I hadn't gotten to bed until very late for me (having been at the play) and slept until the alarm went off at 7:00. Took my weekly med and was dragging until I revived a bit with coffee. Dressed in my docent outfit and gathered up some pertinent things. Got the usual "Access Van will arrive within six to twelve minutes" and==I swear--I was out front within that time. Waited and waited, finially called and was told it had been there and left. I don't know, I must have taken longer than I thought to get out there, but I was livid. Called Lynne, director of docents at Dudley House, and she said she'd pick me up. She did and we got back there just about at opening time at 1:00.
Actually, it turned out to be an enjoyable day. I conducted four (or five--don't remember) tours, two with children, which is always fun, and it went well. In between times, I chatted with Kathy B., the greeter, who is one of those non-stop talkers. She's had a lot of difficutlies lately--broken arm, flooded house, etc.--had a hard time getting up the steps. I had the idea she was maybe in her nineties and was amazed to find she's ten years younger than I am! Wow, 78 is tantamount to the teenage years, it seems to me, but maybe I'm a little skewed. 😆
Lynne took me home and I perked up my ears when I told her about the play at the Santa Paula Theatre the night before. She said she'd love to go there sometime, but had nobody to go with. Hey, I'll give her a call when the next one comes up. Got in about 5:00. Changed and tidied up a bit, then made a sandwich, took an IPA out of the fridge and went to the middle to eat it and continue my book. It was a little cool--61--but there was no wind, but it was enjoyable. It was past 6:00 by that time, so I considered it a linner meal (lunch plus dinner, of course).
Lunch with Soaring Spirits today.
