Since I had decided to make chocolate chip cookies for the Dudley House Covered Dish, I checked my supplies and found I needed sugar, more flour, and butter. Went over to Von's for them, then spent most of the rest of the morning on making them. I don't often make cookies, and hadn't brought cookie sheets from Jersey when I moved here, so I turned upside down two of my roasting pans and two glass ones and used them. Worked fine. It took a few hours, but about four dozen were done by noon.
I cleaned up the kitchen, then looked for something to transport the cookies and found a good-sized basket, on the handle of which I tied a pretty lavender ribbon. Also put six or so on two paper places and took one next door to Suzanne's. Sat town to chat for a bit while I was there, Jim Downes called yet again. I called him back later and a goofy conversation ensued, as it does every time he calls.
Suzanne was very appreciative and so was Vickie when I brought hers over. That left quite a few, which I packed in a metal container and stowed in the freezer for future company. Lunched, took a short nap, then showered and dressed for the covered dish/pot luck. Julie picked me up and off we went.
It was great fun, although, as has happened since COVID, there were fewer people there than there had been when I first started docent-ing--I counted twenty-two. We socialized and ate--my cookies went over pretty big--and I met a set of identical twins I hadn't before. Ha--their hats identify each as "Princess":
Three twinnies. As usual, Shari conducted a short "business meeting" which, as ever, was very casual, to say the least, so a lot more interesting than the dreary, by-the-book kind, sez I. The program was on the early days of the automobile in Ventura and was pretty entertaining, although a shade too long. The speaker--can't remember his name--had a good style of presentation, but he read the whole thing from a tablet; too bad he didn't include slides or other visuals:
It was almost 9:00 before Julie dropped me off and I just watched some T.V. then turned in. Happily, I slept well and didn't get up until 6:15. Continuing my marathon going out regime, I'm having dinner at Lure with Ellen and Greg.
