Almost as an afterthought, I decided to go to Von's at 8:30 to get some white wine for Noreen, who wasn't coming until 11:30. I figured I'd also pick up my meds at CVS, so I signed up to get the van . Bad idea. I had a terrible time sleeping, plus I realized I'd barely have time for breakfast. I managed, though, and Rick got me there and back in plenty of time, but I was still a little draggy.
Noreen got here, of course, at 11:30 and we had a great day. I showed her around the apartment--not that there's a whole lot "around"--which she liked a lot, then we went down to the dining room. I introduced her to many of my new friends and they were all very cordial. With the wine, we had a happy toast to my new life first, then enjoyed lunch; Noreen had the tuna salad and I a turkey sandwich.
After, we went back up to my place and sat and talked for forty-five or so. Noreen had brought me some presents, including a soft and warm hooded jacket. We caught up with each other, then she mentioned her afternoon nap and I was anxious for dreamland myself, so we said goodbye.
But instead of a nap right away, I thought of taking the bus to the mall, for the first time with my walker. I went out to do that, but changed my mind and instead, walked over to The Palms Assisted Living, just to check it out (not that I have any intention of moving there. I was surprised that it's actually fancier than The Orchard, which isn't shabby itself. Here's a little of The Palms:
