FRIDAY: TOPS AND THE HOP

The weight wasn't good, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. At home, I put on .08 for a weight of 141.4 and at T.O.P.S., I added .06 to 142.3. It's certainly well over my ideal, but I'm going to work on it.

Instead of going to balance class, I took a nap, then had lunch with Kathie, LaVerne, and Paula. After that, I went up to the salon to Caitlin and my haircut. She did a nice job--just under the ears--and when she was almost finished, who came in but Kathie, her daughter, granddaughter, and two adorable little great-grandsons, 3-year-old Tanner and 5-month-old Lane, along with their little puppy--he was in the baby coach.

I went directly from the salon to the clubhouse, where the "Sock Hop" was happening. I missed the food, but had a Margarita and actually jived a little to the music. Here are some of the fellas and girls going to it with the swinging '40s and '50s tunes, courtesy of entertainer Kevin Gillmond. I know all the party-goers, but there's no point in identifying them, so I won't. Anyway, it was fun:

We don't have that many couples living here, but many of the few who do were on the dance floor.

By the time the hop was over, it was almost dinnertime. I went upstairs to get a few things, then joined Kathie and Paula at the table. The entree, glazed ham,  didn't appeal to me, so I had a turkey burger, which was good, as ever. And yes, toothpick ice cream was available--chef Michael had kept his promise.

THURSDAY AND TOOTHPICK ICE CREAM

I went to the 11:00 am "Food For Thought" and got Chef Michael to promise to offer what I call "ice pick ice cream" (no sugar added) regularly. We'll see if he holds to it.* Other than that, it was the usual--some complaints, but not serious ones, and some praise. Actually, I think the food service is pretty good--very good, at times.

After, we went directly to lunch, which I had with the regulars, i.e., Kathie, LaVerne, and Paula. It was good, although ice cream (any version) wasn't on the menu; it was Boston cream pie for dessert, which I, of course, skipped.

I got a call from the radiology place that I owe them eighty-five bucks for my last whatever-it-was. Why wouldn't my insurance have covered all? I'll have to look into that, damnit. MaryAnn again isn't going to T.O.P.S., but Cheryl will take me. I know I've gained and have just lost my incentive, I'm afraid.

The rest of the day until dinner? Almost a complete a wash and a waste. I spent time on computer games and worse, several hours napping. LaVerne skipped dinner and besides Kathie and Paula, Denise sat with us. I like her so much and enjoy her telling us about her relationship with her husband, who lives in the mountains. They are not divorced and have no intention of getting divorced, but can't live together. Okay, it suits their livestyles and no problem.

Well, imagine: I ordered some grocery items from Smart 'n' Final about 4:00 and they were delivered to my door at 6:30. Okay, that's my new favorite place to shop!

* He did and I had a scoop for dinner dessert.

WEDNESDAY

After some problems with my RLS when I first went to bed, I slept pretty well. Got up for coffee, then bestirred myself to go to balance class at 10:00.  After and back upstairs, I heard from Ellen, who was due at 11:30, that she needed to stop at the post office first and would probably be here closer to noon.

She was and soon, we took off for town. We stopped first at the bank so I could pick up some check registers. I use my debit card for almost everything and not often for checks, but I record all my transactions that way and it works for me. We then went to the car wash to get her chariot all shiny clean, then decided it was time for lunch and we went to the Hill Street Cafe. It was lovely sitting out on the veranda, which they've refurbished. El got a big salad and I a smaller one with half a turkey sandwich and a cold beer. Very good.

We then went to Wal-Mart to pick up household necessities, as well as other things. I got Charmin to replay Paula for lending me two rolls when I ran out--added a roll for interest. El came back to my place to visit for a bit and I asked if she wanted two throw blankets I had and don't use. Yes, indeedy, and she was pleased to get them. She left about 4:15 and soon, it was time to go down to dinner.

I ate with Kathie, Paula, and LaVerne; it was manicotti, which was tasty. Then it was back upstairs to take my white slacks and iron to the laundry room, where I ironed them to wear today.

"Food for Thought" is scheduled for 11:00 today. It's a gathering with Director Tiffany and Chef Michael where residents can ask questions and discuss concerns. I'll be there, that's a cinch, to ask why no-sugar-added ice cream can't be offered every day. Come to think of it, if that's my level of serious concern, I shouldn't complain. πŸ˜†

TUESDAY

As mentioned, I slept well. Did my morning stuff, then went to the 10:15 Bone Builders class. As ever, Lulu* came in when it was three-quarters over. She does that every single time for meals, presentations, exercise class and you name it. In my book, she's in contention for the "Most Annoying Resident" title. Of course, there are other contenders.

Alicia and Raoul, both of whom are in Bone Builders, had birthdays (they're not related) and Marilyn brought in a cake with candle. I congratulated them, but skipped the cake.

Lunch with Paula and LaVerne--Kathie didn't show, which isn't unusual; she was out with her daughter. After, I hung out until it was time for dime Bingo. Went down, played, and won two games--amusingly, the first and last games. Back at my place, I put in a medium wash before dinner...

...with Kathie and Paula. After, I retrived my wash, folded, and put away. I hung my tops out on the patio for a time, then inside and they'll be dry by morning, if not sooner. Decided not to wash my hair when I showered, as Caitlin is going to cut it on Friday and will wash it then.

Of all things, my phone rang at 8:45 and of all people, it was Stella calling. I haven't talked to her for months, but that's okay. She tends to talk on and on and to bemoan the fact that her son, Joshua, lives in Spain; no other descendents. I've met Josh and think he's a nice guy. Anyway, S. and I talked for fifteen or so, and we'll keep in touch and meet for lunch one of these days. One thing: She asked if I felt "trapped." No, I don't, I like it here, but I thought that was an odd question.

Ellen's coming today and we'll go shopping, then to lunch; can't wait to hear about her weekend trip to San Diego.

* That's a fictitious name, natch.

MONDAY

For the first time in months, I went downstairs to breakfast. Why? Because I wanted to say goodbye to Keith's brother, Kelly, who was leaving in the morning. I was surprised and pleased to see Kathy come down, too.  The three of us held a kind of psuedo wake, reminiscing about our experiences with Keith. It was comforting and after, Kathie and I hugged Kelly and wished him well.

Here's Keith's college graduation picture, c. 1970.

It was 8:45 when I got home and I immediately took an hour nap. Got up refreshed and went down to the multi-purpose room for balance class. Followed that by tidying up a bit, then it was time for lunch.

At lunch, I sat with Kathie, LaVerne, and Paula and we shared more Keith memories, but not for long. Keith is gone and so is Kelly and, distressing as it is to accept that, as humans must after any such loss. I didn't want the jambalaya, so got a hot dog and life went on.

Happpy day, I got emailed the Merchantile license, so now I'm in the clear. I called my "agent" and we had a lovely chat.

Mindy had taken this picture  of Mary and me--and others--for Japan week and it was shown on the screens in several gathering rooms:

After lunch, I did a few minor chores, then went outside to sit in the sunshine for a time and make a few phone calls. When I came in, I ran into Trudie and chatted with her for twenty or so. She does needlepoint and is working on a lovely scence of a mill in a forest. Unfortuantely, she's also dealing with cancer and a number of other physical problems; she'll enter Communiity Medical next week.

Susan (and her little Gismo) picked me up at 5:15 for our monthly dinner with Soaring Spirits. Besides us, only Nardell, Renee, and Grendal (the last two pickleball people) were there, but we had our usual good time and good talk. Home by 7:00 or so and it was already amost dark. Slept well and just got up at almost 9:00.

SUNDAY

It was somewhat of a slow-pokey day, during which I lazed around a lot. My only excitement was stripping my bed, washing the sheets, and remaking πŸ˜‚.  Had lunch with Kathie, Paula, and Denise; it was meat loaf and sides and actually pretty good.

After, I got on this machine to order a supply of IPAs. It's amazing how easy that is and how quickly it comes--barely a half-hour this time.

Had lunch with Kathie, Paula, and Denise with the usual discussions. It's disturbing how unhappy K. seems to be; I'm afraid it's her nature to look on the dark side of things. I like her and wish she could have a more enjoyable outlook on life.

Sort of at loose ends, I joined Cindy and Beverley for Sunday Yatzee. Remarkably, I got Yatzee twice in one game, giving me 150 points and the win.

When I went down to dinner, I was pleased ot see Keith's brother, Kelly, sitting at our table with Kathie, LaVerne, and Paula, and I pulled up a chair. He shared a lot more about Keith and his pre-Orchard life, which was good to hear. It was also good to be told that Keith had left his body to science. Kelly will be leaving this morning and shortly, I'll go downstairs to say goodbye.

Continuing the Japan theme, we're going to have this coming up in October:

I don't know what the odd-looking instrument pictured is, but will be interested in hearing it played.

SATURDAY AND PEANUT BUTTER

Another enjoyable day, with a little annoyance mixed in. I slept reaonably well, but still took a short nap in the morning. I checked the bus schedule and decided to leave on the 11:05 for lunch with Noreeen at Danny's Deli. That happened to be late, but I got there by noon and settled in for a good lunch with my good friend; we had a ball catching up with each other. I had a liverwurst and onion sandwich--so very yummy--along with, natch, a Purple Tears hazy IPA. Noreen gave me a funny list of, supposedly, information taken from church bullletins. We said goodbye after a good lunch and good conversation and I got back in time for quarter, then dime Bingo.  I won one of the quarter games, but not dimes.

Once I got back to my place, I copied some of the list Noreen gave me, which included:

Potluck supper on Sunday at 5 PM--prayer and medication to follow.

Ladies Bible Study will be held on Thursday. All ladies are invited to lunch after the B.S. is done.

The church will host an evening of fine dining, super entertainment, and gracious hostility.

And soon...

I sat down for dinner with Paula and Denise and as ever, enjoyed their company. I enjoyed not so much the company of the other person who joined us. "Clarisse"* is very religious, very opinionated, and very militaristic, I've noticed. She's also someone who will answer questions put to others, one of my lest favorite types. However, it was entertaining listening to Denise talk about her adventure on the bus and the fact that we ran into each other at the transit center. Also, I like and admire Paula a lot.

πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹

BTW, I sent for this peanut butter on line and it's really good. Regular peanut butter contains 90 to a hundred calories per serving of two tablespoons--this contains just 31 calories for the same amount:

FRIDAY

I had a terrible time sleeping and had little energy when I got up. I just couldn't face going to T.O.P.S. and called Cheryl to say I was skipping. I napped for a very short time, then made myself get dressed and go downstairs for balance class with Jackie. I'm so glad I did, as I felt much more energetic after and, to my surprise, it turned out to be a fun day.

Lunched with Kathie and Paula and we had a reasonably good one. The pork with peaches diidn't appeal to me, so I had a turkey burger, which I always enjoy. I went back to my place after to prepare for the "bike" (think "rickshaw") ride at 1:30. The biker, Michael came, and Anita and I climbed in, I didn't expect too much, but it turned out to be very enjoyable. He took us through thereby neighborhoods, which are mostly composed of large, well-made single homes, certainly selling for two million and up. Anyway, it was great fun to be out there in the California sun with the abundance of plants, trees, and flowers, and soaring mountains on the horizon.

We were out for about forty-five minutes, then got back in time to see and hear Tatiana, who is 65 and one of the best entertainers I've ever seen. I was pleased to have Paula join me and we both enjoyed it so much:

Her high kicks are what kill me--I couldn't do that when was fifteen, let alone sixty-five!

Shortly, it was time for dinner and I sat with Kathie, LaVerne, and Paula. The entree was fish and chips, which didn't interest me, so I had my favorite, bagels with salmon and cream cheese. We discussed proposing to Mindy that regular "lunch outs" be scheduled and I said I'd work up a proposal and submit it to her. Did so later and I'll top it off and print it today.

THURSDAY

Lunched with Kathie, LaVerne, Paula, and Mary in the decorated dining room. It was "Japan Day" and my Samuri warrior graced the fireplace. Mindy put him on the fireplace mantel and residents had their pictures taken with him. Lunch consisted of Japanese--or quasi-Japanese--food, which was good and included salmon, chicken, mixed veggies, and, of course, rice. There was also a bar set up; I had good Sappora beer and plum wine. Here I am with the warrior:

Nothing much very interesting went on the rest of the day. I played around on the laptop and did some time on the stationary bike. Other than that, it was a slow afternoon.

Dinner was enjoyable with just Denise and Paula, two of my favorites. Both are somewhat younger than I am--early eighties, as a lot of my friends are--and I enjoy their talk and their attitudes.

I called Noreen after dinner to see if she would like to meet for lunch on Saturday. Yes, indeed, and we'll meet at our favorite, Danny's Deli, at 12:30.

Mary Ann is too jammed unpacking and organizing their new place to got to T.O.P.S. today. Called Cheryl and she'll pick me up at 8:10 or so.

I asked Mike if I could put his pic here and and on Facebook and he agreed. I think he looks like either a captain of industry or a Mafia chieftan:

As for the setting, he's in Mancester, England, accompanying older daughter, Vivian, to graduate school.

WEDNESDAY

As mentioned, I was awakened at 6:00 by a call from Little Egg Harbor Township regarding my failure to pay the water/sewage bill for my house in Little Egg. That was because they had sent the bill to my old address and the post office had failed to forward it. Anyway, long story short, after involving someone to represent me, the problem is solved.

Rick drove me to CVS to pick up my medications. On the way, he asked if I wanted to do other shopping  or would I prefer he simply wait for me. I had intended to go to Vons, but decided I really didn't need anything there urgently, so I opted to have him wait. I got the meds and was back home within the hour. As I disembarked, I ran into resident Katherine, who had lived in SO-FI and moved here shortly after I did. She had on a shirt with the name of her adorable little dog on it and I had to take a picture:

Had lunch with Kathie, LaVerne, Paula, and Denise, fivc of us at a table for four, but that was okay. After that, I played around on this laptop for a bit, then went downstairs to have my BP taken. It was good, 119/66 (55), so maybe the fact that I had to wait for the nurse for fifteen or so made a difference.I stayed downstairs because I was almost time to play dime Bingo. I did and won three games.

One of the other residents--I think she has a screw loose--is constantly talking about her distant relatives, the Clossens, who founded the pickle company. She showed me an article her cousin or somebody had sent her, then asked if I would look for more on the Internet. I did when I got home--there are dozens--and printed them out for her. She was ecstatic.

Dined with Paula, LaVerne, and one of the Carols--there are several here--a somewhat somber personality who has a tendency to preach and tell you what to think, a trait I particularly dislike. However, she suffers from depression and I guess I should give her a pass. While we were eating, Mindy came over to ask if it was all right with me for her to move my Samuri warrior into the dining room  in the place of distinction on the fireplace. Sure, why not.

Today is "Japan Day" and lunch will include Japanese--or at least, Asian--food, as well as good Japanese beer, Sapparo and plum wine. Saki will also be available, but I certainly will skip that as it's about the most disgusingly horrible beverage I've ever tasted.

I slept fairly well and will try to skip a nap today.

TUESDAY

I didn't sleep well again, but got up at 6:30. Did my morning routine, then put in a large load of wash. I took my hour nap before going to the Clubhouser for Bone Builders Class.  It was good to be back there, although I kept remembering and missing Keith, as he had attended regularly.

Went to lunch after and darn, I forgot my hearing aid, so dropped my lemon wedges and salt at our table--LaVerne was already there--and went up to get it. Kathie and Paula joined us and we had a tasty enchilada platter. Retrieved the wash from the dryer, and folded and put it away.

Beverly gave me a page from a flyer advertising a pillow designed for walkers. I guess I had admied hers, although truthfully, I don't know if I really want one, although chairs in resturants are often too low for me.

Went down to dime Bingo at 2:00 and was surprised there were only seven players; usually, we have many more. However, we played and although I didn't win any, it was reasonably enjoyable. Activities Director Mindy had brought her adorable little kitten to visit and what a sweetie:

I stayed after to chat for a bit with Mindy, then went back to my apartment to tidy up. Shortly, it was time for dinner and I sat with Paula, Denise, and Mary; neither Kathie nor LaVerne showed up, which is not unusual for them.

I'll elaborate on this in tomorrow's entry: I was awakened at 6:00 am by a call from Little Egg Harbor Township Water Company. It's too long and involved to go into here, but boy, I guess they didn't get the message that I live in California and it's three hours earlier here--AAGH!

Tuesday, September 15, 2026

MONDAY

Slept okay and got up at 6:30. After my coffee and my morning puzzles, I dressed and, as I've been doing, lay down at 9:00 and took an hour's nap. I was annoyed with  myself for not getting up earlier, but still went  down to balance class and participated in the remaining fifteen minutes.

I scheduled a "Rick ride" (The Orchard van) for tomorrow to CVS to get my medication. I'll also stop at Von's and possibly, will call to see if Noreen can meet me for lunch at The Little Lion.

Kathie called to ask if I had a pill-splitter and could she borrow it. I do, in fact, I have two, so I brought them down to lunch.  Ate with her, Denise, and Mary and we discussed, of all things, our childhood experiences. Lunch was, again, appropriate for a November's cold night in Jersey (pork roast and mashed), so I ordered two bagels with lox (salmon); ate one and took the other home for an evening T.V. snack.

Rode the stationary bike for twenty minutes and will go to Bone Builders today--I need to get my exercising up to par.

Had dinner with Kathie, LaVerne, Paula, and Mary. The entree was sloppy joe and Tater Tots, which I wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole, so I ordered a tuna Caesar salad, which I've had many times and is pretty good.

Son Mike, on his way from Savannah to London, posted on Facebook that he had a seven-hour layover in Newark, as his flight was delayed. Hope he finally makes it to meet Vivian at her university there.

I finally heard back from the head of the Tokyo contingent. My grandson, Mr. K., I'm told, is visiting high schools to see which one to choose. It seems the system is more like our college--students pick the school on the basis of what their interests are. Unfortunately, I was told none of the cards I sent, two hard copy and two electronic, were yet received, nor was the gift card I sent to the thirteen-year-old--damn! Now I'm going to try to figure out some way to compensate.

😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁

I just came across this photo, circa 1922. My Mom is the rider and her sister-in-law, my Aunt Gertrude, is standing on the left. I don't know who the other girls are. I captioned the pic "Horsing Around."

SUNDAY AND REMEMBERING KEITH

It went this way: sleep until 7:00, take my once a week pill, wait a half-hour before coffee, then take a 45-minute nap before heading to the dining room for lunch. Sat with Kathie, LaVerne, and Mary; Paula didn't show and I'm not sure why. I had salmon for the second day in a row, and it was okay, but not as good as at Stephen's Greek. Went back upstairs until 2:00 Bingo with Sandy.

That was fun and I won a game. By the time we finished up, it was 3:00 and time for Yatzee. Just Cindy, Beverly,  and I played and I won two out of three (no credit to my skill or anaything, it was just dumb luck that I got Yatzee twice). When we finished, it was time for dinner and I invited Cindy to eat here and sit with us, which she did. It was cranberry chicken salad and very good. When we were almost finished, Keith's brother, Kelly, came over and sat with us, as I had invited him to do the other day. He had brought family pictures and we all enjoyed seeing Keith as a two-year-old, a ten-year-old, a teenager, and older.

I had wanted to introduce him to Dyan, who had been so friendly with Keith and he asked me to, so I took him over to her table. It happened that LaVonne was sitting with her and I remembered that she was a distant cousin of Keith's. Kelly and I sat down with them, showed the pictures, which they loved, of course, then I called Denise over and she joined us. Naturally, she greatly enjoyed the pictures, too. I said good night in fifteen or so, and left them talking together.

So-o-o, we remembered Keith with affection and sorrow, which suggested a viewing or a wake. Appropriate, I think, and to an extent, comforting.

SATURDAY

Slept well, did this and that, made scrambled eggs for breakfast, then took a short nap. It was then time to go down to lunch; did so and sat with Kathie, LaVerne, and Paula. They enjoyed my recounting of my talk with Keith's brother, then Mike called to Facetime, but I asked him to call after lunch. He did and we had a good talk.

Mike is with Violet at the Savannah College and Design, and is staying at an historic house for "selected" guests. BTW, his ex, Paula, is staying across the hall. They met Violet's three roomates, as their apartments, brand new, contain two bedrooms with two beds, a living room, kitchenette, and two bathrooms. Hey, it's probably as nice or nicer than mine. Violet starts school tomorrow and Mike will than fly to London, where older sister Vivian will start her doctorate studies.

Went down for quarter Bingo at 2:00 and stayed for dime Bingo starting at 3:00. Darn, I didn't win a single game, but it was fun, anyway.

Ellen and Greg got here a bit after 4:00 and got to work hanging my towel rack. Finally, at long last, it's up, a nice kitchen towel on it and it looks good. El took a selfie-pic of the three of us:

We chatted a bit for a while, I gave El her presents, then we left for Camarillo. It takes only about twenty minutes to get there, much of it through farm country.

Stephen's Grille has been opened only a month; it's owned by the same people who had Steven's Greek in Ventura, to which we went often. Unfortuantely, they had a dispute with the property owners, something about the lease, and left there. The new place is considerably larger, fancier, and oh, yes, a heckuva lot more expensive. El had a gimlet, I an IPA, Greg no alcohol and we each ordered a regular meal, plus El had dessert. I treated her for her birthday and it ran into quite a bit, but I didn't care. Here the the two lovelies:

Service was pretty slow there and we didn't get back to my place until almost 9:00. The two kids came in just for a few minutes, then we said goodbye after a wonderfully enjoyable evening.

FRIDAY--AND MY DARLING DAUGHTER'S BIRTHDAY!

No weight report today: My scale is out of juice and, although I have the batteries it uses, I can't seem to open the section, so couldn't weight. Cheryl picked me up for T.O.P.S. and I weighed in, but neglected to record it. I know I lost a miniscule amount--I think I was told a fourth of a pound or something, but it was insignificant. Hey, at least I didn't gain.

Ellen called me on the way home to thank me for the birthday card from Gwennie and Cessy (meow!). She and Greg will be here today and we'll go the Greek restaurant in Camerillo to celebrate the birth of this lovely young woman:

Darling Daughter Ellen; I don't know what I'd do without her.

Home at 9:30 and I had a piece a bread and butter, then napped for an hour. Went down to lunch after and sat with Kathie, LaVerne, and Paula. The conversation was good and so was the chicken piccata.

I went downstairs at 2:00 for Happy Hour and saw Mindy with a man to whom she introducted me. It was Keith's brother, Kelly, here to oversee Keith's possessions and so on. I asked if I could speak to him for a bit and he was kind enough to sit down with me for about forty-five minutes. It was so good and so fulfilling to talk to him. He told me a lot about Keith and the family background, all of which I found absorbing. Still, though, the cause of death isn't known.

After, I fooled around with the laptop until 2:00 when it was time for Happy Hour. The Dynamic Due were there, as they often are, and I like them so much. Enjoyed their renditions of old-time songs and their tribute to Dolly Parton. Indulged in a Margarita during the program.

Dinner with Paula, Denise, and Mary and they were interested to hear of my exchange with Keith's brother. After dinner, I saw Mindy and she said some of Keith's possession was in the multi-purpose room for anyone who wented them. They were all books and included was the one I had lent to Keith months ago; I took that, as well as two others.

THURSDAY

Full of new-found energy after my lovely sleep, I stripped the bed, added some clothes, and trudled the load to the laundry room. When I went back to get it before lunch, I found both dryers were taken, but no problem, I took them to the other second-floor laundry room to dry.

I spent twenty minutes on the stationary bike before going down to lunch. Ate with Paula, LaVerne, and Mary. Kathie didn't show, which was concerning since she had told us yesterday that her daughter had had to be taken to the hospital. It seems she broke out in hives after cleaning her daughter's newly-bought home, a fixer-upper that Kathie believes had some kind of toxicity in it. I called her after lunch and left a message. Re-made the bed and put away the clothes.

I was fooling around on the laptop, then thought I'd get a glass of water, which we keep being told we should drink more of. (No--incorrect! It should be "of which we should drink more," but that sounds so awkward and old-fashioned, the hell with it.) Anyhoo--I went to the sink and horrors--again found tiny, tiny ants. This time, I investigated further; after emptying the surface places and the long drawer, I found a tiny cracker piece in the latter and yes, it had ants around it. I then spent an hour emptying all places in my little kitchenette, washing or wiping them out, washing what they contained (silverware and other kitchen supplies), then replaceing everything. Whew, what a job, but I'm confident I got rid of the problem.

Had dinner with Kathie, LaVerne, and Paula; as ever, I enjoyed their company and our--sometime naughtily worded in Kathie's and my case--conversation. Entree was shrimp and I enjoyed that, too.

Mary Ann has some escrow thing going on, so won't be at T.O.P.S. I texted Cheryl and she'll take me; I'm not opptimistic about my weight though. Showered and washed my hair before settling in for the night.

WEDNESDAY:

It seemed like a busy day, but I guess it really wasn't. My dermatology appointment was at 12:30, but the uber driver, courtesy of my insurance, picked me up at 11:40. Therefore, I got there a few minutes before noon and had to wait a half-hour. Dr. C. saw me for roughly one minute; she had only to check the lesion on the cheek and zap the thing on my nose. I'll go back in March to follow up.

Home about 1:30 and I had a small portion of potato salad, then put some of my Japanese aritifacts in the walker and, as promised, took them downstairs to Mindy. She was delighted and arranged them in the display case:

I geared up for dime Bingo at 2:00; went downstairs, played the game, and won three. By that time,  it was a bit after 4:00. Found my Amazon order at my door and put away the contents. How I absolutely love the fact that I can order what I need, pay electronically, and receive the goods within a short time--in this case, overnight.

Ellen called to say she had made an appointment for us to see P.A. Natelie in October. She also said she and Greg will pick me up on Saturday and we'll go to a Greek restaurant in Camarillo to celebrate her birthday. It's actually on the eleventh, tomorrow, but Greg is off on Saturday, so it's more convenient.

By the time I was ready to go to the dining room, I was starving. Went down and joined Paula and Denise; neither Kathie nor LaVerne came down, as happens often. We had some good, fun talk and a delicious kind of roast beef and cheese on a roll with French dip. Remarkably, they also had no sugar added ice cream and I had a small bowl of that.  No plans for today or tomorrow, except for T.O.P.S. or Friday, which is fine by me.

Note: Happy day--I slept soundly all night! By the time I turned in, it was ten-thirty and I just got up at 9:00. It's remarkable how good I feel after ending several days of restless sleep. I just stripped the bed and will wash, then do some household chores and the exercise bike.  😴YAY!

TUESDAY

Put in a load of color wash in the morning. Ellen called to say she had heard from Primary Medical about my knee and she'll make an appointment for us to see P.A. Natalie the week after next. Fine by me.

Early on, I called Dermatology Medical to see if I have an appointment today, hoping against hope I didn't., but I do, at 12:30. Called SCAN Transportation and will be picked up at11:46. Okay, I'll miss lunch, but will eat something here.

Down to lunch and saw that our usual table was filled. Kathie was sitting elsewhere and I joined David and Lisa, a nice change. They're the couple who met here at The Orchard and now live together. We had an enjoyablet time, which included a game they play--"Contexto" or something--and we played it. I'll have to look it up, as I may like to play it, too.

Back at my place, I prepared for 2:00 dime Bingo. Went down and enjoyed it; also, won two games. The session wasn't over until 3:30, at which point, I did this and that regarding minor housekeeping. Do-Lannie had done the floors and bathroom and it looks good.

Had dinner with the companians I enjoy most: Kathie, LaVerne, and Paula. It was a kind of Asian salad, very refreshing and the conversation that went with it was enjoyable, too. There's a new server named Ava, whom we met--she is, of course, in her late teens or early twenties, as they all are. I enjoy interacting with them so much.

Showered, but decided not to wash my hair. I'll wait a while or maybe have Caitlin cut it, if I can ever get hold of her.

Very poor sleep last night, and I'm dragging. Will drink my coffee and try to bouce back.

MONDAY

Susan picked me up at 11:15 and off we went to the Stone Fire Grille; her little Gizmo came, too, and was perfectly behaved during lunch:

There were five others there, including Barbara Q., who hasn't attended in some time. I was so pleased to see her and we had a great time. When that sweet girl, Susan, dropped me off, she said she's pick me up in two weeks for our dinner gathering, so I don't even have to text her beforehand.

It was almost 2:00 when I got back, but no prob, as I didn't have anything else scheduled. Took my nap, futzed around, and then it was dinnertime.Neither Kathie nor LaVerne showed--they often stay in their apartments for dinner--so Paula and I sat together by ourselves. We had a good talk getting to know each other more and, as mentioned before, I like Paula so much. Although she's only in early seventies and looks younger, she suffered two strokes three years ago, and has been working on the effects ever since. Happily, her speech is perfectly okay; it's her memory and her balance that cause her some problems. Anyway, much as I like the others with whom we usually sit, it was good to chat with her alone.

I went to bed very late for me: ten-thirty. Even so, I awoke too early and got up, so I'll have to nap again today. That's okay, as I have no plans except dime Bingo at 2:00.

SUNDAY

Susan texted me, asking if I wanted her to pick me up for Soaring Spirts lunch today. I had forgotten it was the first Monday, and was glad she asked--sure, I'll go.

Had lunch with Kathie, LaVerrne, and Paula. Kathie told us her daughter, Stacy, had been taken to the hospital by ambulence, as she had developed a body-wide case of hives. It seems she had been cleaning out the house her daughter just bought and Kathie is convinced there was something in there  that triggered the hives. Guess we'll find out.

Back at my place, I fooled around on this machine, then went down to play Yahzee at 2:00. Beverly and Ada played, as well as volunteer Cindy. Mary G. came in just to watch, which was as well, as she's a non-stop talker. We played two games and Ada got Yahzee twice. After, Cindy asked if I'd like to have dinner, meaning there at The Orchard. I sure did and I like Cindy a lot, so we went into the dinning room. I thought our usual table might not accomodate all of us, so sat at another. I made the mistake of picking the table where Bruce, yet another non-stop talker, sits. He came, he never shut up, and I'll invite Cindy to sit with all of us another time.

I've been having some trouble with this computer, but I hope it's resolved now. If not, I may try going to Asurion one of these days to have several (minor) problems addressed.

I just came across this pic of the Little Egg Theatre Company''s production of Quiet Please, a simulated radio show we did about twenty years ago. There I am, standing on the left, along with my colleagues of another life. Good memories.

FRIDAY: TOPS AND THE HOP

The weight wasn't good, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. At home, I put on .08 for a weight of 141.4 and at T.O.P.S.,...
